Snacks and other Deliciousnesses

This forum is for everything else, be it talking about the podcast itself, the latest video game, or anything else!

Postby lincoln » March 29th, 2012, 1:02 pm

This is a thread to announce if you are planning on bringing something to the session (which means it will mostly be me posting)... pizza, cookies, pies, anything. Getting deliciousnesses always puts me in a good mood, and knowing they are coming will put me in a good mood all afternoon!

If anyone reading would like to donate to our grubbage fund (this is by no means a solicitation), feel free to do so! Just click the Paypal link on the TK Donation Page (and either tell us here or PM Greg or Lincoln so we can give credit where credit is due). Thanks!

I support the creation and use of this thread. Now I just need to figure out something to bring one of these weeks. It'll either be really good or really bad.

I made some tasty Southern-Style Biscuits the other night... I'll have to make them again for a future session!

Dorito Nachos

Postby DeathbyDoughnut » March 29th, 2012, 11:28 pm

Since Lincoln brought up the Doritos taco, and we were kind of discussing it in the chat at the start of tonight's session.

Recipe for excellent Doritos Nachos

Needed:
1x Disposable aluminum lasagna pan. I usually go with something like the 8x16x2.
Ingredients:
1x Can Re-fried Beans
1x 1 lb ground meat
1x pack of taco seasoning
1x bag of nacho cheese Doritos
2x 1 bag of Shredded cheese (I like mexican cheese mix)
(Optional): 1x 1/2 cup chopped green pepper, or onion.
(Optional): 1x can of sliced black olives

Directions:
Re-fried beans in a lasagna pan, one healthy coating spread on the bottom of the pan.
1 lb hamburger meat (or ground chicken or turkey if you are not down with red meat) browned separately, mix in taco seasoning. Once cooked spread meat out as a layer on top of Re-fried beans.
Sprinkle generously 1 bag of shredded cheese.
Open Bag of Doritos. Empty Bag of Doritos into the pan on top of the layers.
Generously sprinkle with shredded cheese over the Doritos.
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Once ready, place nachos in the oven for approx. 15-25 or until chips are browned in spots and cheese layers are melted.
Take out of oven.
Apply sour cream/guacamole/etc favorite nacho toppings.
Optional: You can add veggies as a layer on top of the re-fried beans if you like. Green peppers, onions, and olives go well here.
Serve with turner and enjoy.

And you have DeathbyDoughnut's Doritos nachos.

Damn... that sounds really good... I might make that to accompany my Beefy Mac for dinner tonight (and maybe some Ben & Jerry's after)! It will be an artery-buster kind of evening!

Question - Are the beans and meat difficult to get to? I usually put them on top of the chips, but it tends to make the chips soggy. Layering them at the bottom sounds easier when building, and (I assume) lends to crispier chips... I just worry that, towards the end of the meal, I will be left with a pan lacking chips but still containing a healthy amount of uneaten beans and taco meat.

Just so you know, I've been listening to this podcast for about a year now (since episode 13) and if there's some way for me to say, buy you fine folks some pizza, let me know. I'd like to donate. I've been getting what is essentially free entertainment for a year, I figure pizza is the least I can offer.

Speaking from experience, it's not difficult at all to buy these fine folks a pizza :)

Lack of a current check card lead to an interesting discovery for me late last night - mashed potato and stew burritos. Requires care when eating (spread potato over soft totrtilla before applying stew), but the net results were remarkably tasty.

Lincoln. The meat and beans are not difficult to get to at all because the chips are so big, should be spaced just fine so it's not hard to get to at all. When I make this for me and my wife. I just ignore the whole serving thing and we just dig in from the pan.

I cannot confirm or deny that that I may have dropped off another one of those green envelopes at the post office on friday.
Not sure if this supposed package will reach you by thursday (5th) but I would recommend stocking up on some vanilla ice cream.

Sooooooo.....
Judging by people's responses in this thread, if anyone wants to donate to our food fund, I put a link to it in the first post. Feel free to use the TK Donation page for this kind of stuff. But remember, this isn't a solicitation... if you want to donate a few bucks towards pizza, we will all be forever grateful!

Also, getting treats in the mail is freaking awesome too! We are waiting with bated breath, Swimteampie!

Save some room for some corn cherry scones from my neighborhood bakery.

By now Cailin/Lincoln has surely gulped up the last of the Saltpastiller licorice. So any requests for the next care-package?

I'm not going to request anything specific (because everything you send is delicious). I will simply say "YES!"
By the way, having these snacks between Cailin and me is driving a wedge between us... she hogs them all!
