Official Epic Tier Gear Acquisition Thread

This is for any RPG related out-of-character stuff like rules discussions, character ideas, loot wishlists, etc. If it's about game mechanics in any way, it goes here.

@Dan and Eric, I think this is a very good time for you both to buy many moar upgrades. Especially Dan, since he's going to be in a dual.

To Thor regarding some gear purchases. Deomin has some pretty high level items right now. I felt like he was lagging for a bit, but in pretty rapid succession he got a +5 neck +5 armor and Uchehi(a +6 sword). Im really happy to see other people gear out their important slots and I have been content to make some smaller skill-related purchases like Deomin's mask and belt. In total since we started the log ive spent 250K which used to be alot of money!

We will see what comes of Brandis' duel next week. If Uchehi gets taken somehow i'll be in dire need of a new sword!

That last post got me on a kick of looking for gear. How bout this little number for Wrenn.

Cloak of Distortion »

Right now the Flamewrath cape isnt getting Wrenn anything. The bonus to intimidate is covered by Wrenn's headpiece and the melee attack damage bonus is never useful either if I'm not mistaken. Getting a +5 bonus to ALL of Wrenn's defenses when he can keep out of range could be huge. Epic 48 Will from beyond 5 squares.

current low enhancement bonus report:

Arora: Amulet of Life +4, Bradaman's Urgosh +4, Meliorating Warplate Armor +4
Brandis: Currently all +5 with recent purchase
Deomin: Scimitar of Summer +4, might need a replacement for Uchehi
Hugh: Lucky Charm +4, Survivor's Feyhide Armor +4
Wrenn: Flamewrath Cape +4, Robe of the Archfiend Feyweave Armor +4

We tend to run a heavy attack based combat style, getting Arora and Deomin's weapons up to +5 might be a good idea.

Ill wait and see what happens to Uchehi, but if it comes down to an upgrade I have good options at 300K and 500K.

I'll just throw it out there:

The role-playing implications are unquestionable. If we don't lose Uchehi, I'd be happy to wield it once again.

And yeah, I know I complained for the better part of a year about lugging that thing around, but that was a different Brandis. That was a pre-last-session Brandis. Mechanically, the +5 Mordant Weapon would need a new home, or we could feed it to our residium crapping rust monster for a Deoupgrade.

If Deomin was interested in expanding his elemental arsenal into an acid/poison direction, you could just (mechanically) use the Transfer Enchantment ritual to move the +5 Mordant enchantment to a Scimitar. Maybe not exactly what he's looking for, but it would effectively be free... assuming Brandis does indeed get Uchehi back.

Thanks for the gear ideas guys. While I like the mechanic of transferring enchantments and saving all that dough, I haven't ever been a fan of the RP that comes from people passing around enchantments like skis at a swap meet. If Raisin Brandis picks up Uchehi again, fear not that his pricey enchantments will go to waste. Ive cooked up something that I like more than trading swords.

All that gold and no one spending it, no one wants another 500k ring, or to but any items to up your skills? Greg has been hinting you should all do that, not to mention that Brandis's skills are all really shitty right now. No offence to Dan or anything, just stating the facts. : P And that neck piece looks amazing for Wrenn.

Enhancement bonus report:

Arora - weapon +4, neck +4, armor +4
Brandis - weapon +6, neck +5, armor +5
Hugh - Weapon +5, neck +4, armor +4
Pinter - weapon +5, neck +4, armor +5
Wrenn - weapon +6, neck +5, armor +5

we've got over 12 million gold to spend, at the very least all those +4's need to be +5's by this thursday.

I was seriously considering buying these, but in the end I went with Sandals of Avandra » . While having the teleport speed is cool, I need to stay far away from melee range in order for my Cloak of Distortion » to be effective, so the +2 to movement won out. Plus, in a few more levels, I get to teleport my speed as part of my epic destiny anyway :D

Side note - Arora is in serious need of some upgrades...

Just pay the price. You can't craft Rare items (if you want a rare item, let me know and we can see about building it in to story).

If you get rid of an item, you get back 20% for Common, 50% for Uncommon, and 100% for Rare.

Text of enchant magic item ritual » :

You touch a normal item and turn it into a magic item of your level or lower. The ritual’s component cost is equal to the price of the magic item you create. Alternatively, you can use the ritual to upgrade a common, uncommon, or rare item to a more powerful version of the item that is 5 levels higher. The new version must be your level or lower, and the component cost equals the difference in gold piece value between the old version and the new.
You can also use this ritual to resize magic armor (for example, shrink a fire giant’s magic armor to fit a halfling). There is no component cost for this use.

we'd been using this method for upgrading gear we have to the next higher version.

p.s. That last line is also a clue as to why the Crown of Ohgma now fits in Hugh tooth.

Oh yeah, I forgot that you get the full value of an item if you're doing a pure upgrade.

Although the 5 level difference usually means that the amount you save is a drop in (Frida's) bucket.

acquisitions for Hugh:

upgrade Lucky charm +4 -> lucky charm +5 : -420000 gp
sale of Survivor's Feyhide armor +4: + 52500 gp
purchase of Predator's Hide Stalkerhide armor +5: -425000 gp
upgrade of Gauntlets of Blood (paragon) -> Gauntlets of Blood (epic): -504000 gp

net total: -1296500 gp

A few other things I could purchase as well, but I'll wait till people get their stuff and see what's left.

The doc has been updated with the current "funds" available to the group. All acquisitions in the dark world should be flavored to be power increases due to absorbing the power of gods.

In addition, for absorbing Labelas Enoreth, everyone gets one free level 27 item.

Hoorah! Wrenn just picked up Iron of Spite » ; I'll flavor it in session tonight. Pretty sweet upgrade over the skill challenge helm I am currently rocking (as long as we aren't dealing with exploding minions  ).

Also, I have reached a point where there isn't really anything else I want to buy. I have a +6 weapon, and just upgraded my armor and neck pieces to +6... am I crazy for not wanting anything else? Should I be looking for max level items for all slots? As far as I can tell I have pretty good stuff as is (even if some of it is paragon).

Another note... ALL HAIL WRENN'S WILL! 48, with a potential of 54 if more than 5 squares away :D So stoked!

Upgraded my Learning Weapon » to +6. Lvl 30 items are expensive. Took Ring of Greater Invisibility » for the free item. Some nice offensive and defensive utility and the +5 bonus to stealth is something I'd been wanting. Shame my neck and armor upgrades are too high of a level for the freebie. Looking at the monies, we each get about 3 million to blow on something. If there's any unused I'b be happy to spend more of it. :)

Just to add another QQ post to the thread; I really wish there was more cool equipment to buy. I haven't really needed/wanted anything in a few levels, and even the feats/dailies we have gained lately have been a bit lack luster for me.
